Lismore is located in one of the most beautiful river valleys in Ireland. The
famous River Blackwater runs through the town on its way to meet the
sea at Youghal.
Lismore is in county Waterford famous for its world renouned Waterford Crystal. Indeed the county itself is known as "The Crystal County".
Located within easy reach of the port of Rosslare and the International Airport at Cork Lismore is an ideal base from which to explore the entire south of Ireland. But you do not need to travel far to enjoy a wonderful holiday. 3 golf courses, fishing, mountain walking, beautiful beaches, historic monuments, friendly people, music, drama, good food, sport and sailing are all within easy reach. The list is only as short as your spirit of adventure. In Lismore itself you can go horse riding at Ballyrafter Riding Centre. Lismore itself is steeped in history. The present day castle built by the Duke of Devonshire in the 19th Century stands on the site of a castle built by Prince John in the 12th Century. The Cathedral of St Carthage dates from the 17th Century. St Carthage founded a monastery here in AD 633. The Lismore Crozier and Book of Lismore are known throughout the world. built by Prince John in the 12th Century. Pine Tree House is within walking distance of Lismore Castle, Mount Melleray Abbey, home of the Cistercian Monks since 1833 and the Towers at Ballysaggart. Eating out is a pleasure and locally we have Buggy's in Glencairn and Ballyrafter House Hotel to delight your palate. If touring is your intrest then why not pay a visit to Jamesons Distillery in Midleton, to Cahir Castle or the Rock of Cashel. Maybe Swiss Cottage would interest you or just explore the Knockmealdown Mountains. Its all there to be enjoyed.
